Accident Summary:
THE AIRCRAFT HAD JUST REFUELED AT THE CAMP HOLLOWAY "CHRISTMAS TREE" POL POINT. THE AIRCRAFT COMMANDER CALLED THE TOWER FOR CLEARANCE FOR HOVER DEPARTURE FROM THE POL POINT. THE TOWER ACKNOWLEDGED AND ADVISED THE PILOT TO CALL HOVER CHECK COMPLETE. THE PILOT MOVED THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE REFUELING POINT TO THE ACTIVE RUNWAY AND CALLED BACK THAT HIS HOVER CHECK WAS COMPLETE. THE TOWER CLEARED HIM FOR A TAKE-OFF TO THE EAST. THE PILOT INITIATED HIS TAKE-OFF BUT SOON REALIZED THAT HE HAD INSUFFICIENT RUNWAY REMAINING TO REACH EFFECTIVE TRANSLATIONAL LIFT. HE CALLED IN THE BLIND HIS INTENTIONS TO ABORT THE TAKE-OFF. HE PULLED PITCH TO AVOID THE DITCH OFF THE EAST END OF THE "CHRISTMAS TREE" ACTIVE AND THE ROTOR RPM BEGAN TO BLEED OFF DUE TO THE LOAD ON THE AIRCRAFT AND THE AMOUNT OF PITCH REQUIRED TO SUSTAIN FLIGHT. AS RPM WAS LOST THE TAIL ROTOR LOST EFFECTIVENESS AND THE AIRCRAFT STARTED A SLOW SPIN TO THE RIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED TO THE GROUND BOUNCING HARD ON A POL PIPE AND SKIPPING TO THE LEFT, FINALLY CAME TO REST FACING BACK TOWARD THE EAST END OF THE ACTIVE RUNWAY.\\
